What is co-location?

On the Internet, the term colocation is used to mean the provision of space for a customer’s telecommunications equipment on the service provider’s premises. For example, a Web site owner could place the site’s own computer servers on the premises of the Internet service provider (ISP). Increasingly it refers to the location of a server or Web server owned by a Web hosting company, an application service provider (ASP), an ISP or an enterprise user in a facilities management centre.

Most colocation facilities allow users to maintain and monitor their servers from a remote location, with occasional visits to the datacentre for physical access to the colocated machines.

Why co-locate your server?

Colocation provides the physical space needed for the interconnection of networks. It is the ideal choice for most organizations who do not want to invest in the infrastructure involved in supporting a datacentre environment.
